A partnership proposal for campus recreation and Greek life · prepared for [Partner organization]

A co-ed league that fixes the sophomore cliff and reads Title IX clean by design.

Electronic scoring is touch-based and gender-blind, so the league runs as one co-ed bracket: intramural, inter-house Greek, open division. A certified LSTA instructor runs it on your rec floor, carries the equipment and the insurance, and your department shares in registrations. No campus in your conference runs this at program scale today.

What is on your desk

The sophomore intramural cliff

Freshman participation looks good; sophomore, junior and senior participation craters. Nothing has a progression worth a Tuesday night.

Greek life without a positive outlet

Inter-house rivalries are real and under-channelled. A structured league gives them a floor.

The wellness mandate without a vehicle

Movement, community and structured discipline. Most campuses have the first two.

Recruiting differentiation

"Things to do on campus" is where applicants compare schools. The first campus to run this owns the story.

The walkthrough: how the arrangement runs on a partner's floor.

The Title IX brief, four points

Structurally equitable from the equipment up, not retrofitted.

Scoring removes the strength variableA point registers on contact at the impact threshold, not by force. A heavier strike does not score more. Competition becomes positioning, timing and decision-making.
One co-ed bracket, not parallel structuresThe position is not "equivalent programming"; it is "the same programming." Simpler to administer, harder to challenge.
Greek inter-house competition becomes workableHouses compete house against house as a single league, rosters mixing freely.
Equipment is uniformSame training saber, same scoring, same win condition for every participant.

How the arrangement works

What I carry

  • The Light Sword Training Academy curriculum: nine forms, the sash progression, the Code of S.A.B.E.R.
  • All equipment, in and out of the building each session. Nothing stored unless you offer a corner.
  • Certified instruction. Your staff never teaches.
  • Program insurance. Your existing coverage treats the session like any other activity in your building.
  • The sponsor packet that makes participants free, and the outreach to local businesses.
  • A one-page monthly report: attendance, milestones, sponsor dollars, photographs with consent.

What you carry

  • One protected weekly slot for one season or semester.
  • A floor about 24 by 24 feet for a class; about 30 by 40 feet for a league night.
  • One champion inside your organization with about 30 minutes a week.
  • The announcement to your community.

What your organization receives

The department receives a share of registrations on its floor (20 percent is the standard opening) or the facility fee it already applies to outside programs. A chartered student club can pay season registrations from student-activity funds. Local sponsors can fund seats. Standings live on Saber Circuit from the first night.

Every revenue figure above is a documented result from LSTA's founding operations or a labelled illustration, never a projection or a guarantee. Results vary with market, fill and execution.

Is this the right fit?

It fits if

A director who has watched the sophomore cliff for several cycles, is under Title IX scrutiny, and wants a signature league before a conference rival has one. Formats: intramural league, inter-house Greek league, open division and showcase.

It does not fit if

A campus with no Greek life and no measurable intramural drop-off; a culture that treats club sports as a stepchild; a campus too small to measure participation; insurance thresholds beyond standard intramural coverage for anything combat-adjacent.

The questions you will ask

Insurance?

Standard intramural coverage applies to the facility; the program carries its own insurance; foam-core sabers and electronic scoring remove the incentive to strike hard.

Can students run it as a club?

Yes. A chartered club with a constitution, officers and a student-government funding request can book the floor and become the partner from the inside. The instructor provides the charter documents.

How fast can it start?

First league night within about five weeks of approval; no travel, no installation.

In 2015 the founding academy opened in Virginia Beach. In 2016 the franchise that gave the sport its international structure failed the people inside it. In 2017 the four masters above rebuilt LSTA as a federation, engineered against every failure they had survived. That history is why the terms on this page favor your organization.
